How the PTO system works in Vermeer excavators?

Power source: On Vermeer’s truck-mounted units, the high-powered vacuum and water pump are driven by the truck’s engine through the PTO. The operator engages the PTO to transfer power to the auxiliary equipment.

Clutch engagement: When the PTO clutch is engaged, the truck’s rear axle is disengaged to transfer power to a gearbox that runs the vacuum blower and water pump.

Fuel efficiency: This PTO-driven method is often used for larger vacuum excavators because it eliminates the need for a separate “pony motor” for the excavation system, reducing overall weight, space, and cost.

Functionality: For certain models, the PTO drive system allows the vacuum functions to continue operating even as the truck slowly repositions between holes, which improves job site efficiency.
